High blood pressure…? It could be in the air…!
Cardiovascular diseases are a major
cause of death in developing countries. Hypertension and metabolic syndrome are
main causes of cardiovascular diseases. Metabolic syndrome is further linked
with abdominal obesity, elevated blood pressure, and extreme blood glucose
levels. These conditions are associated with a higher risk for various health issues.
The main causes of these disorders are complex and are related to genetic
factors, lifestyle, diet, and environmental factors considering traffic air
pollution, traffic sounds, residential factors, and neighbourhood quality.
Researchers investigated the organization
between a long-type exposure to ambient air pollution and major roads with the
development of hypertension and the residential distance to green spaces and
some components of metabolic syndrome. These components
included: a reduced high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, high triglyceride
level, obesity and higher blood glucose. The organizations were assessed among
people who lived in multifamily houses or either private. The researchers that
air pollution levels above the median are associated with a higher chance of
reduced high level density lipoprotein. Traffic- corresponding exposure was associated with
the occurrence of high blood pressure, high triglyceride amount and reduced
high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. However, the worst
impact of traffic air pollutants was noticed only in the participants who lived
in multifamily Areas.
There are more families are living in
traffic areas, this may be associated with the incidence of hypertension as
well. In addition, a built-up environment, high residential density, street
traffic and its grouping are further factors associated with social
interactions and supportive mutual relations, it is also impact on cardiovascular health. The greenness, area, and
type of the open public spaces were observed to be inversely related to the
risk factors assessed. Investigators have moreover found positive effects of
the natural environment, and have emphasized the positive influence of such
spaces on cardiovascular health.
"We should provide the living space
for one person in multifamily houses, the apartments and buildings must have
noise reduction systems, and green spaces must be developed in multifamily
houses".
